A centennial celebration of Czechoslovak independence. Join us for the concert by Ondřej Havelka & His Melody Makers, a renowned Czech band that plays the best of American and Central European jazz and swing music. Cash bar by Bohemian Spirit Restaurant.

Semi-formal event.

The 1920s were a time of great importance in both the United States and the recently founded Czechoslovakia, after the United States and President Woodrow Wilson supported Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk and the creation of the Czechoslovak Republic at the end of World War I in 1918. The two nations have since had a steady relationship of cultural exchange in a number of areas, yet the atmosphere of the 1920s is particularly special. Americans, Czechs and Slovaks all experienced a period of peace after World War I where the energy was focused on a style of fashion and music that flourished as never before.

Let’s then travel back in time into the roaring 1920s with Ondřej Havelka & His Melody Makers - a band that plays the best of American and Central European jazz and swing music from the 1920s and 1930s. Ondřej Havelka leads the band as a soloist singer, speaker and dancer. As the band states, a concert by Ondřej Havelka & His Melody Makers is “more than that, it is a show designed to emulate the typical manners of those times, complete with the costumes and hairdos, and rounded off by overall direction of the performance.”

Free and open to the public. Registration is required. RSVP to reserve your ticket online at
